1. IntroductionWaste sorting has become part of our everyday life. It is the business of every one of us. Each time we sort our waste, we are helping to preserve our environment. Recycling and recovering waste gives a second life to used materials, avoiding the need for disposal or incineration, both of which are sources of pollution. This allows us to use resources more economically and reduce the cost of treating waste.
CERN has an active policy of sorting its waste and minimizing the high cost of waste treatment.
The GS-IS-LS section is in charge of conventional waste: the collection and the disposal.
Two types of services are assured:
Reminder: Each works site Supervisor must be able to ensure the traceability of evacuated waste resulting from his works like emitting the adequate shipping documents (customs documents...).
2. Skips, containersIn order to minimize the costs of waste treating, CERN sorts waste.
For any request concerning a container, or skip, please fill in a request through the Service-Desk@cern.ch, tel. 77777:
Request for the disposal of a container/skip from CERN's site
Skips: For safety reasons, skips must never be filled to more than 75% of their capacity before removal, irrespective of their size.
Many kind of skips are available to carry this out. The size will depend on the type and quantity of waste to be removed.
